ISO 20121

ISO 20121:2012 Certification
Event sustainability is a principle, a philosophy in managing events that takes into consideration three important aspects: environmental protection, social growth, and economic progress. We are looking at an enduring balance at-risk approach to make sure that these three perspectives are integrated into the planning of events, into the execution of the plans along with the commitment to review and make sure that any negative impact socially, economically, and environmentally are managed and reduced to its minimal level, to be able to leave a better impact, to leave a better operation and make a difference to the running of the events. ISO 20121:2012 is a voluntary international standard for sustainable event management, created by the International Organization for Standardization. The standard aims to help organizations improve sustainability throughout the entire event management cycle.

ISO 20121:2012 Certification offers guidance and best practice to help you manage your event and control its social, economic, and environmental impact. Every action counts, from relying on tap water instead of plastic bottles to encouraging the use of public transport. ISO 20121:2012 is suitable for ensuring that events, ranging from local celebrations to mega-events such as the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games, leave behind a positive legacy. The standard is relevant to all members of the event industry supply chain including organizers, event managers, stand builders, caterers, and logistics suppliers. ISO 20121:2012 flexible approach means that it can be used for all types of events, from music festivals to school outings. The standard has been developed with input from many different stakeholders, including representatives from the event industry, to make it practical and useful. It addresses all stages of an event's supply chain and includes monitoring and measuring guidelines. This should lead to improvements in key sustainability issues such as venue selection, transport, recycling or reusing demolition waste, creating a sustainable food strategy, promoting healthy living, and creating skills, employment, and business legacies.

Benefits of ISO 20121:2012 Certification
        Best business practice
         It makes sense to take an organized, processed approach to manage economic, environmental, and social impacts. Also, what gets monitored and                 measured gets reduced, so there are likely to be lower overheads.

        Reputational advantage
          Using a recognized international framework will enable leaders in sustainability to demonstrate their actions credibly and transparently."
          This International Standard is intended to be applied flexibly and will allow organizations that have not formally addressed sustainable development              to start to implement an event sustainability management system. Organizations with existing management systems will be able to integrate the                    requirements of this International Standard into their existing systems. All organizations will benefit from the process of continual improvement over            time. ISO 20121:2012 is suitable for all sizes and types of events.

ISO 20121:2012 Certification applies to any organization that wishes to:
•     establish, implement, maintain and improve an event sustainability management system;
•     ensure that it conforms with its stated sustainable development policy;
•   demonstrate voluntary conformity with this International Standard by the first party (self-determination and self-declaration), the second party (confirmation of conformance by parties having an interest in the organization, such as clients, or by other persons on their behalf), or an independent third party (e.g. a certification body).
